The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway is ...Santiago as Christ Figure.
I think that Hemingway describes that OMS is related with Christ figure. This is because a lot of things which are written on OMS are very similar to Christ. For example, three days of crucifixion for Santiago and his bleeding hands are the symbols of Christ. Also, the relationships between Santiago and Manolin are like Christ and his follwer. Like this, there are a lot of sentences which imply Christ, so it is very interesting for me to find out the things which are written on OMS about Christ. I think Santiago is very similar to Christ and Hemingway is like a Christian. Also, I think Hemingway wants to appeal he is a Christian.
For these reasons, Santiago as Christ Figure is the most useful approach to use in critically analyzing OMS.
